The BGU Regenerative Medicine and Stem Cell (RMSC) research center is a multidisciplinary, integrated, university-wide collaborative effort, uniting researchers from various departments (bioengineering, natural and medical sciences) to advance and implement pioneering and innovative ideas to the regenerative medicine, cellular therapy and stem cell research.
The center, located in the Guzik Family Building for Biotechnology Engineering (#42), has an open space research laboratory, 4 tissue culture rooms, laboratory for physiological and pre-clinical studies in rodents (under construction), a microscopy room, offices, conference room and various service areas.
Research Areas in Center
The development of bioengineering tools to advance stem cell research and translation. We are designing three-dimensional (3-D) scaffolds and bioreactors to mimic physiologically-relevant cell microenvironments for stem cells and tissue engineering.
Generation of induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) from patients with genetically-based disorders (neurodegenerative, neuromuscular, cardiovascular and mental diseases) and use them to study the functions of genetic variants associated with complex traits and normal human phenotypic variation. The close relationship with Soroka Medical Center's Genetics Institute enables to monitor and investigate genetic mutations in the Bedouin population of the Negev.

Center Mission Statement
Establish an expertise in regenerative medicine and developing therapies that regenerate tissue and organ function impaired by disease, trauma or congenital abnormalities.
Generation of scientific knowledge in regenerative medicine and share it with researchers, clinicians and the public through educational activities, training and publications.
Educate and train scientists, engineers and clinicians to implement technologies related to regenerative medicine.
