The Negev Center for Sustainability is an applied research facility of the Department
for Geography and Environmental Development and the Faculty for Humanities and Social Sciences,
at Ben-Gurion University, Israel. Established in 2015,
the center revives the operations of its ancestor,
Negev Center for Regional Development. he Negev Center for Sustainability promotes applied research
of different dimensions of the sustainability science,
and focus on the various interactions between the social,
cultural, economic and environmental aspects of sustainability
at different spatial scales.
The Center promotes academic research, and provides support and initiates applied
research with emphasis on estimating the contribution of different policy measures and
planning practices to local, regional, national and global sustainability.
The Negev Center for Sustainability operates under four different thematic areas of research,
namely: Urban Sustainability, Regional Development, Alternative Planning and Measuring Sustainability.
Studying each of these areas requires a multi-sectoral and multidisciplinary cooperation.
As such the center ambition is to conduct cutting-edge research, with involving scholars from diverse
fields of science, and to constitute a knowledge hub to both non-academic public and private entities.
