The Laboratory for Rehabilitation and Motor Control of Walking (RMCW)
Mobility means freedom, flexibility and autonomy for everyone, including persons with disabilities. Although the human motor system has an outstanding capacity to adapt and to learn new motor skills, recovery from motor impairments is still one of the most challenging topics in neuroscience.
In the laboratory for Rehabilitation and Motor Control of Walking we investigate the mechanism that controls the function of walking in persons with typical walking patterns and those with disabilities following brain damage.
The Laboratory focuses on methods for achieving optimal, engaging, meaningful practice resulting in the transfer and retention of walking in everyday environments.
Currently we are developing novel therapies for persons with Cerebral Palsy and Traumatic Brain Injury, based on error induced motor learning and non-linear dynamics.
