Master’s studies in Artificial Intelligence and Autonomous Software Systems

MSc. in the department of Software and Information Systems Engineering

The Master’s program in Artificial Intelligence and Autonomous Software Systems program provides high-level education for researchers and practitioners in a broad range of Artificial Intelligence fields such as Game Theory, Natural Language Processing, Data Science, Machine Learning, Automated Planning, Multi-Agent Systems, Recommendation Systems, Fault Detection and Diagnosis, and Heuristic search.

Students participating in this Artificial Intelligence and Autonomous Software Systems program will learn models, theories, and practical methods for developing intelligent systems, bridging the gap between man and machine. The program addresses a clear need for Artificial Intelligence professionals in the industry, which is the result of how ubiquitous technology has become in everyday life, where intelligent systems and algorithms are being used in navigation systems (GPS), computer simulations, internet agents, e-commerce, education software, computerized medicine, and more.

The department of Software and Information Systems has the largest number of Artificial Intelligence researchers compared to other departments in Israel, and is acknowledged both nationally and internationally in various AI fields. This program will expose students to exciting and up-to-date research fields, some in collaboration with international companies (e.g., IBM, Intel, Microsoft, and Facebook) and leading research institutions (e.g., Harvard and MIT). In addition, BGU provides competitive scholarship to suitable candidates.

Admission

This program is mainly designed for students with a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or other exact sciences, with sufficient background in programming and algorithms. Graduates of this program join leading high-tech companies in Israel and abroad in the fields of Artificial Intelligence and Data Science, as well as continue on to Ph.D. studies.

The curriculum

This is a two-year program that is also suitable for students that wish to work while participating in this program. The curriculum includes 36 degree points, including approximately 8 course (24 points) and a research thesis (12 points).

The available courses in this program are diverse, and include: Game Theory in AI, Natural Language Processing, Machine Learning, Complex Network Analysis, Search Methods in AI, AI Applications in Automated Diagnosis, Planning and Inference in Time-Dependent Medical Information Systems, Deep Learning, Advanced Topics in Recommender System, Collaboration in AI, and Text and Content Mining from the Internet.

Research Thesis:

The students are required to perform a research thesis in the field of AI, supervised by a department faculty member. Students start the working on their thesis early in their studies, and the set of topics is very diverse and exciting, some of which are done in collaboration with industry and with top-tier international universities.
