Prof. Avi Bareli was recently appointed as Director of the Ben-Gurion Research Institute for the Study of Israel and Zionism and will begin in his new position soon.


Prof. Bareli received his undergraduate degree in Philosophy from Tel-Aviv University and his master's degree in the same subject from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. In 2001, he was awarded a Ph.D. (summa cum laude) by Tel-Aviv University for his doctoral thesis, "Authority and Participation: Political Struggles in the Mapai Party 1948-1953."

Since 2003, he has been a faculty member of the Ben-Gurion Research Institute for the Study of Israel and Zionism on BGU's Sede Boker campus and a lecturer in the Israel Studies program in the University's Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. His research focuses on the political, socio-economic, and ideological history of the State of Israel.
