Researchers from the Zuckerberg Institute for Water Research (BIDR, BGU?) are taking part in the fight against COVID-19 pandemic by tracking down coronavirus in sewage and purified wastewater. The research project - in collaboration with researchers from the Department of Biotechnological Engineering, the Department of Industrial and Management Engineering and the Ministry of Health – has two goals. The first is to establish a statistical method based on wastewater testing, which can provide early warning of an impeding outbreak without the need  of performing individual tests. The second goal is to study the safety of wastewater reuse in-light of the highly infective new virus and the implications on wastewater treatment technology in the future. Dr. Oded Nir, Dr. Edo Bar-Zeev, Prof. Zeev Ronen and Ms. Hala Abu-Ali from the Zuckerberg Institute for Water Research take part in this project.
