Yulia Shevchenko, a Ph.D. student from the Swiss Institute for Dryland Environmental & Energy Research of the Jacob Blaustein Institutes for Desert Research (BIDR), won the President's Scholarship for Excellence and Scientific Innovation. This scholarship is granted to encourage quality academic training and research.

Yulia's thesis is titled “Multiple marginalities of women from the former Soviet Union in Israeli Negev development towns."

Ron Efrat, a Ph.D. student from the Swiss Institute for Dryland Environmental & Energy Research of the Jacob Blaustein Institutes for Desert Research (BIDR), won the Adams Fellowship. This fellowship is granted annually to up to ten graduate students at the beginning of their doctoral studies. The Adams Fellowship Program arose from the vision and generosity of Mr. Marcel Adams of Montreal, Canada. Mr. Adams views young Israeli scientists as the key to the country's future.

Ron's thesis is titled “Age-related learning and survival in Egyptian vultures (Neophron percnopterus)"
