We are at the beginning of the month of the Jewish Holidays, and immediately following it, a new semester will begin. This is a wonderful opportunity to look back at the previous academic year and examine our successes and failures. Success is always pleasant and contributes to one’s selfconfidence. We are usually rewarded for our successes, and they have a positive effect on our career. Despite the fact that failures are mostly unpleasant, they are an excellent opportunity to learn a great deal; in the future, with effort, sometimes a failure can turn into a success. The holiday period is an excellent opportunity to do this soul searching. One effective way is to examine the changes in our CVs that happened (or did not happen) over the last year. Each of us can identify the points in which s/he succeeded and the areas that still need improvement.
At the beginning of October, Dr. Tarin Paz- Kagan will join our institute as a senior lecturer.
Information about Tarin's lab can be found below in the newsletter. I am convinced that Tarin will strengthen our unique network of researchers and bring with her innovative tools and
methods in the field of remote sensing. We are making every effort to ensure that the construction of Tarin’s laboratory will be completed soon. I want to thank Eli Asa who is doing his best to help with this construction project. In addition, Tarin’s arrival is a significant reinforcement for the agro-informatics specialization in the Desert Studies degree. The objective of this specialization is to provide students with a broad scientific understanding and set of practical tools for developing, managing, and analyzing the “Big Data” of agricultural systems in order to improve sustainable food production in arid environments.
The institute has published two calls for new researchers in the field of plant biology under stress conditions. We are looking for one researcher who works on whole plant physiology and a second researcher who focuses on topics that examine cellular and molecular processes. Please help spread the word so that we can continue to recruit excellent researchers to strengthen our institute. The process of screening and interviewing researchers is long and sometimes tedious and includes many discussions, but in the end, with your help, we will reach the goal of successfully recruiting excellent researchers. More information on the positions can be found below.
Shana Tova!
