The Hubert H. Humphrey Institute for Social Research – Renewal of Activities
After 6 years of inactivity the Humphrey Institute renewed its activities, during November 2016, under the leadership of Prof. Yair Neuman.
The Hubert H. Humphrey Institute for Social Research is an independent institute, operating under the auspices of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev. The Institute was established in 1978 and its main goal was to prompt inter-disciplinary activity with reference to central social issues. The Institute promoted academic and practicable research as well as faculty seminars. The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev made an effort to renew the activities of social research in the Humphrey Institute and to reinforce its position as inter-disciplinary institution, which crosses and connect the boundaries between all of the faculty's departments, between scholars and doctoral students, and between academia and the public.
The Hubert H. Humphrey Institute focuses on strategic thinking in social research and encourages excellence among students and young researchers in Humanities and Social Sciences, while imbuing research skills and knowledge alongside improvement of the strategic thinking abilities of its members. In 2016, the Institute opened a program of excellence for Ph.D students in the faculty. The aim of this program is to connect between the different doctoral students and to create a brain storming team with prominent inter-disciplinary orientation. This team will focus on the attempt to deal with problems at the strategic level, while developing creative thought.
