The Israel Antitrust Authority (IAA) is an independent government agency in charge maintaining and promoting competition in the Israeli economy. The Authority deals with a variety of activities related to competition: conducting market research and writing competition methodology documents, competition consultation for government ministries and authorities, criminal and administrative enforcement against companies that harm competition, and licensing of mergers and arrangements between companies. The Authority employs about 35 economists. Head of economic work at the Authority is Dr. Yair Eilat, Chief Economist, and Dr. Oren Regev, Head of Economic Research in the Authority (and senior lecturer in the Economics Department at the University of Be'er Sheva). The Authority employs economists from a variety of academic and professional backgrounds. The Authority offers two main courses of action to new economists: a research track, which involves work on long-term studies and the construction of methodologies, and an applied track, whose main function is the ongoing economic work of the Authority.
