PV characterization of Multi-junction III-V concentrator solar cells under ultra-high flux of real sunlight

Dr. Eugene KatzProf. Jeffrey Gordon and Prof. Daniel Feuermann have developed test facilities and original experimental approaches for testing concentrator solar cells, using natural sunlight concentrated to ultra-high flux.

The approach allows the testing of multi-junction cells of various device architectures and to investigate:

(a) efficiency as a function of controlled variation of light concentration (ranging from 1 to 10,000 suns) and of the cell temperature;

(b) effects of non-uniform irradiation of the cell as opposed to uniform irradiation

(c) testing the integrity and uniformity of the cell as a function of light spot location on the cell.
