Dr. Eugene Katz, Prof. Jeffrey Gordon and Prof. Daniel Feuermann have developed test facilities and original experimental approaches for testing concentrator solar cells, using natural sunlight concentrated to ultra-high flux.
The approach allows the testing of multi-junction cells of various device architectures and to investigate:
(a) efficiency as a function of controlled variation of light concentration (ranging from 1 to 10,000 suns) and of the cell temperature;
(b) effects of non-uniform irradiation of the cell as opposed to uniform irradiation
(c) testing the integrity and uniformity of the cell as a function of light spot location on the cell.
