New Book: Nonlinear Physics of Ecosystems

24/05/2016

The book offers a state-of-the-art treatise on the newly emerging research field at the interface between pattern formation – a discipline that centers on spatial self-organization, and spatial ecology.

Following a detailed exposition of pattern formation theory, applications to spatial ecology are described, focusing on vegetation pattern formation in drylands. The significance of vegetation patterning to outstanding environmental problems, such as desertification and biodiversity change in varying environments, is further explained.
