BGU has just
launched a sustainable agricultural solutions course for students from China
and India. Researchers from the French Associates Institute for Agriculture and Biotechnology of Drylands will teach the
students subjects in a variety of agricultural and environmental areas. The
course provides new knowledge and technologies as well as an integrated
academic perspective that focuses on agriculture techniques to improve food
production and water use efficiency, especially in light of global
desertification.
Twenty five students were chosen from a
pool of approximately 100 applicants, some of whom hail from leading
universities. The students will stay on campus in Sede Boqer for a month and
will undertake coursework, lab work and field work and will participate in
professional tours throughout the Negev.
“The course enables us to show off the
agricultural research at the Institute and make new connections, while training
a new generation of practitioners and possibly future academics,” says Prof.Naftali Lazarovitch, the course organizer.
Of the 100 who participated in past
courses, about 10 continued on to get advanced degrees at the Albert Katz International School for Desert Studies on BGU’s Sede Boqer Campus.
The course is funded by the Israeli Council
for Higher Education.
