Oxford Brookes University will offer a “Scholarship for Israel” to a qualified BGU graduate for the coming academic year.
The scholarship covers travel expenses, fees and living expenses for the Academic Year 2012/2013 to pursue a one-year full-time Master’s program at Oxford Brookes University and is the brainchild of the Oxford Jewish Chaplaincy Board, in particular Isaac Garson and Sandra Dwek. They are both active members of the Oxford Jewish Congregation who are backing this initiative. Isaac is a well-known and experienced international educator and past chair of the Board. Sandra is an alumna of Brookes' law faculty and former member of its Chancellor's Court. She is also a frequent visitor to BGU and an admirer particularly of its minorities' and outreach programmes, she said.
“Together with well-wishers and philanthropists, we have raised enough funds to initiate the first year of what we hope will be a three year project. We are keen to promote the project not only because of its intrinsic merits in providing superb opportunities for students from Israel but also because it will provide opportunities for Brookes to find out about Israeli culture, establish links with Israel and promote Israel / Arab friendship and understanding on campus," Dwek said.
Set in a historic student city, Oxford Brookes is one of the UK's leading modern universities and enjoys an international reputation for teaching excellence and innovation as well as strong links with business and industry.
Created in 1969 with the mandate to bring development to the region, BGU is internationally-recognized for its unique pioneering spirit that combines outstanding academics and research with a commitment to the community. With more than 20,000 students, five Faculties and a number of internationally-acclaimed research institutes, the University has become a world leader in interdisciplinary research in cutting-edge fields that range from desert studies to nano- and biotechnology, Hebrew literature to international medicine.
