According to the data from 2011 on the publication of research articles in the Association for Information Systems (AIC) Senior Scholars’ Basket of Journals by leading researchers in the field of information systems, BGU is the only Israeli university ranked in the top 100 universities in the world in the field. The Faculty of Engineering Sciences ranks 64th.
This achievement is attributed to Dr. Lior Fink of the Department of Industrial Engineering and Management. In terms of publications in the basket, he ranked 24th from 2009-2011 and 26th from 2007-2011.
Prof. Nava Pliskin, a senior member of the same Department who coordinates the field of information systems noted, "The rankings calculate a weighted score for each university and points are allocated according to their contribution relative to articles by faculty members which by virtue of their publications universities are ranked. BGU’s score of 3.13 raised it to 64th place, based on four papers published by faculty members from two Departments in the Faculty of Engineering".
90% (2.8) of the weighted score came from members of the Department of Industrial Engineering and Management: Dr. Lior Fink (a score of 2 for two articles out of the four)), Dr. Tzipi Heart, Dr. Yisrael Parmet, Prof. Joseph Pliskin and Prof. Nava Pliskin (a score of 0.8 as the contributors to one article out of the four), while the remainder of the score (0.33) was earned by a member of the Department of Information Systems Engineering, Prof. Bracha Shapira (who contributed to the fourth article with two researchers from outside BGU).
The article by Prof. Bracha Shapira, who serves as head of BGU’s Department of Information Systems Engineering, received an honourable mention at the International Conference on Information Systems (ICIS) in December 2011 as one of the five best articles in the field of information systems in 2010 and rated by the prestigious Journal of the Association for Information Systems (JAIS) as the best article for 2010.
