“Andre Deloro was an exceptional man of vision, enlightened, who combined his generosity with a breadth of interests that has driven the development of the State of Israel,” said Prof. Rivka Carmi recently, at an event honoring the Adelis Foundation which he founded. She opened the ceremony noting that she was privileged to have had the honor of meeting Andre before he passed away almost two years ago.
“I was there when he received an honorary doctorate from three great Israeli universities at once – the Weizmann Institute, the Technion and Ben-Gurion University of the Negev. Andre’s vision – to encourage collaboration and investment in research and development – has had a huge impact on Israel,” she said.
The event, held in the presence of his brother Albert Deloro and trustees of the Foundation including Mrs. Rébecca Boukhris, introduced BGU and its work in the fields supported by Adelis, including solar, alternative and renewable energy, in collaboration with the Technion; in the future, advanced clinical medical research together with the Soroka University Medical Center. It ended with the unveiling of their name on the President’s Pillars.
Albert noted that the name Adelis includes Andre’s initials and the first letters of the name Israel reflecting his brother’s love of his Jewish past and belief in Israel’s future. “I can only imagine how happy Andre would be if he was here with us today and could see how his vision is being moved forward,” he said Albert, adding that “Andre believed in doing the impossible. You are bringing life to his legacy.”
