Ireland and the Great War

You are invited to a fascinating lecture on Ireland, one of the unique fields of study at the Department of General History at BGU.

Around the world, countries are currently marking the centenary of the First World War. Irish participation in the war was very controversial: although tens of thousands of Irishmen volunteered to the British army, until recently the Republic of Ireland has largely ignored the memory of this episode, while Northern Ireland has commemorated it with a partial bias.

Come and hear the leading world expert explain this topic: Professor Keith Jeffery, Queen’s University Belfast. The lecture is in English and is open to the general public.

After the lecture, there will be a festive pub reception at the Coca bar, sponsored by Guinness, with the Ambassador of Ireland, and featuring live traditional Irish music.

We will be happy to offer a complimentary pint of Guinness or glass of whiskey to those who attended the lecture.
