Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE)

The department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev was established in 1971. The department offers both undergraduate and graduate programs in a wide range of subjects that encompass both practical and theoretical aspects of electrical and computer engineering. The department has a student enrollment of over 1000 students pursuing B.Sc., M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees. The ECE department has 35 faculty members, whose teaching and research fields include: Communications, control and robotics, signal and image processing, computer engineering, electromagnetics and wave propagation, electro-optics, instrumentation and non-linear electronics, VLSI and nanotechnology, biomedical engineering, and power electronics.

Master’s Degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering

The department of Electrical and Computer Engineering offers a graduate program for the degree of Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Electrical and Computer Engineering. The aim of the M.Sc. program is to provide the students with expertise and advanced knowledge in a selected field of specialization within electrical and computer engineering. Master’s studies include coursework consisting of 8 ECE courses (all courses are taught in English), which aim at establishing the necessary background required for carrying out a research work submitted as a thesis towards the M.Sc. degree. Thesis research is supervised by an ECE faculty with expertise in the selected field of specialization. Students graduating with an M.Sc. degree are qualified for senior research and development positions in industry, and may continue towards the Ph.D. studies. In particular, the M.Sc. studies can be extended to Ph.D. in and combined track such that the thesis exam is considered as the Ph.D. candidacy exam. The M.Sc. degree is typically completed within 2 academic years (4 semesters).

The fields of specialization in the ECE Master’s program include:
Automatic Car Photo
              - Communications
- Signal Processing

- Control Systems
- Electromagnetics

- Electro-optics
- Computers
- Secured Systems

Enrollment Requirements

Applicants to the M.Sc. program should hold a B.Sc. degree in Electrical Engineering or closely related fields at a minimum GPA of 80/100. A TOFEL score of 85/120 or equivalent score in an internationally recognized English proficiency exam is required. English proficiency requirement is waived for applicants who received their B.Sc. degree in a program taught in English. GRE is recommended but not required. Additionally, prior to applying to the M.Sc. program, the applicant is expected to contact a potential advisor among the ECE faculty. The application should include the name of the advisor in the application.

Appointment of an Advisor

The prospective M.Sc. student is required to have an appointed thesis advisor during the M.Sc. studies. A list of department faculty members can be found at http://in.bgu.ac.il/en/engn/ece/Pages/AcademicStaff.aspx. The prospective student is expected to communicate with faculty members regarding potential supervision of the thesis, and indicate the name of the advisor in the application.

Summary of M.Sc. Degree Requirements

  1. An advanced mathematical course
  2. 3 core courses within the specialization field
  3. 4 elective courses related to the specialization field
  4. A thesis
  5. Presentation of the thesis work in a department seminar or symposium

M.Sc. Thesis
The research resulting in an M.Sc. thesis is carried out during the entire two years of the studies. The student is expected to publish and present the research results in leading international journals and conferences. The thesis is evaluated through a written report and an oral examination.

Tuition Fees
Tuition fee is nearly US$ 5000 per year. Outstanding students are eligible for scholarship which can cover the tuition fees and provide living expenses.
